Damian Stephens, better known as Dplanet is no stranger to the South African Hip Hop community because of his contribution to the SA Hip Hop industry mainly as the founder of Pioneer Unit but also as a music producer.

Damian Stephens is considered by many as Cape Towns hip hop saviour.

Born in the UK, Dplanet arrived in South Africa in 1996 at the time when hip hop was taking off in SA with Johannesburg being the capital or rather the place where everything happened.

As many of us feel, the Cape Town hip hop scene has often been misunderstood and seen as too raw and underground. It wasn't any different when Dplanet decided to step in and gather the best of Cape Town’s underground, spaza and afrikaans emcees to start what is today the most established independent label in South Africa.

Pioneer Unit as label has resurrected careers of artists like Ben Sharpa,and sucessfuly put xosha hip hop on the SA map with the likes of Rattex and Driemanskap.

Dplanet and Pioneer Unit have given voices to artists by allowing them to be themselves and express their creativity freely.

As a music producer, his production credits include Pro Kid, Trusenz, KONFAB, Ben Sharpa, Middle Finga and Archetypes
