Godessa (Ej Von Lyrik, Burni Aman and Shameema Williams) also known as Cape Flat Divas were the first female SA hip hop crew. In a male dominated game as female emcees Godessa were aware that if they wanted to make it they had to work almost twice as hard as their male mates. Also, being based in Cape Town doesn’t make it easy to break into the music industry
because of  many reasons, one of them is the fact that all media power houses and all major labels are based in Joburg, another is that the Cape Town hip hop scene is very raw, underground and rough at times, which is regarded by major labels, who are not worried about getting the message to the masses, as not commercial enough and doesn't guarantee them return on
investment.  

Although Godessa with a combination of not only Hiphop but Reggae, Dub and Funk, they have often been perceived as not commercial enough, these 3 went against the odds and proved the industry wrong, they went on to release the monster single Mind Ablaze and Spillage as one of the dopest albums in SA hip hop history.
The album got great reviews, air play in all major radio stations and the support of print media as well and most importantly helped to put SA hip hop on the map internationally.
