Tuboy Tulz Biography

Tuboy Tulz

Thulani Hobe aka Tuboy Tulz was born in Nigel in a township called Duduza and was raised in the Eastern Cape in a town called Cofimvaba (Cof No More) by his grandma. At age 13 he moved to Cape Town to further his studies and thats where he met the love of his life (hip hop). He used to recite rhymes from his favourite hip hop artists from the US and Locally, and realised on a later stage that he was able to write his own lyrics and recite them for classmates or teammates. I gained some sort of reputation for my raps and my classmates gave me the name Tuboy after my english teacher asked me to rap before we could continue with the poetry class, says the soft spoken MC.

Friends kept telling him to record his stuff but he paid them no mind since he was busy studying and focussing all his energy in soccer, and especially when he's mother passed away he had completely gave up on rap but a friendship with a guy called Profane from East London gave back the hunger to this young MC and he was back with his pen and pad. In December 2006 at an open mic set in a club called Que Pasa the young Mc met up with Basil Hearne aka Bad Influenz who later on introduced him to Robert Nzaou aka Dark Rob and the latter was impressed with the way Tuboy delivered his story telling lyrics, he then started mentooring Tuboy. And soon tracks like Fresh out the Bush came out of the combination of Mr Nzaou and the charismastic young rhyme spitter, he gained confindence and had improved a lot after the work he put in with a crew called Massive Ten and a collaboration with an Mc from Gabon by the name of Stone P, and did a track for the legendary Emille from Black Noise for a project against racism and xenophobia...look out for more music from Tuboy in the near future.
